Does TE PATI MĀORI gets special treatment to act illegally?
Who wants to have a go at explaining this?
NZ Police?
TPM?
Electoral Commission?
Speaker of the House?
Anyone ???
The Police investigation into Te Pāti Māori on the matter referred by the Electoral Commission (relating to text messages promoting Te Pati Māori that were published prior to the 2023 General Election without a promoter statement) has been closed and no further action taken.
Police declined in OIA request I sent on the 10th June of 2024, requesting copies of any complaints made to Police about either Te Pāti Māori or Manurewa marae’s conduct concerning the 2023 election from May 1st 2023 up until the 15th of March 2024 – “these cases are all still active investigations, therefore the information requested is withheld under 6(c).”
This was signed off by Fiona Cox,
Detective Senior Sergeant, National Criminal Investigations Group.
Police again declined my OIA request sent on the 13th of August 2025, requesting an update on the issue, again stating the matter was an active investigation – signed off by Territorial Detective Superintendent, Ross McKay.
A third OIA request now states the matter was actually closed back in January 2024, almost immediately after the Police received the complaint from the Electoral Commission.
